Protests calling for the dismantling of the Ministry of Finance have been held nationwide and have become a major topic of discussion. On the night of February 21, nearly 1,000 people gathered in front of the Ministry of Finance, chanting slogans such as “Abolish the consumption tax,” “No to tax hikes,” and “Reduce taxes.” As financial hardships increase, public dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Finance is growing.
Meanwhile, critical posts on the ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) account have surged. Since the House of Representatives election on October 27, the number of replies has increased more than 15 times compared to before the election. Many of these posts include phrases like “Dismantle the Ministry of Finance” and “Zaimu Cult,” expressing strong criticism. In particular, backlash has arisen against the ministry’s resistance to the Democratic Party for the People’s proposal to abolish the so-called “1.03 million yen income barrier.”
