動名詞とは

ポイントの解説

動名詞は、Vingの形をとり、名詞の役割を果たします。基本的に「〜すること」と訳され、不定詞の名詞用法と同じように使われることが多くあります。※動名詞と不定詞の名詞的用法は全く同じではありません。詳しくは「動名詞と不定詞の違い」の章で説明します。

Swimming is good exercise.：泳ぐことは良い運動です。

I enjoy reading.：読書を楽しみます。

He is interested in learning new languages.：彼は新しい言語を学ぶことに興味があります。

例文の1つ目は、主語の役割を果たし、例文の2つ目では、目的語の役割を果たしています。例文の3つ目は、”learning new languages”「新しい言語を学ぶこと」と名詞の塊を作って目的語の役割を果たしています。
