助動詞とは

助動詞は、動詞を助けると書くように、動詞の意味を補完する役割をします。通常、動詞の前に置かれます。これにより、時制、能力、許可、必要性、意向などの意味を強調したり表現します。助動詞の後に置かれる動詞は、原型の形をとります。助動詞でよく使われるものとして、”can”、 ”will”、 ”should”、 ”must”、 ”may”があります。それぞれの助動詞によって、補完する役割が異なります。

助動詞の例文

I can go to school tomorrow.：明日、学校に行くことが出来ます。

I will go to school tomorrow.：明日、学校に行きます。

I should go to school tomorrow.：明日、学校に行くべきです。

I must go to school tomorrow.：明日、学校に行かなければなりません。

I may go to school tomorrow.：明日、学校に行くかもしれません。

助動詞の種類と意味合い

Can：能力や許可を表す。例：I can swim.（私は泳げる。）

Could：Can の過去形。過去の能力や許可、丁寧な依頼を表すこともある。例：She could play the piano when she was young.（彼女は若い頃ピアノが弾けました。）

May：許可や可能性を表す。例：I may see her later.（後で彼女に会うかもしれない） May I use your phone?（あなたの電話を使ってもいいですか？）

Might：May の過去形。可能性や丁寧な依頼を表すこともある。例：He might come to the party.（彼はパーティに来るかもしれません。）

Must：義務や必要性を表す。例：You must study for the exam.（試験の勉強をしなければなりません。）

Shall：一人称の未来の意図や提案を表す。例：Shall we go to the park?（公園に行きましょうか？）

Should：必要性や推薦を表す。例：You should see a doctor if you're feeling unwell.（体調が悪いなら、医者に診てもらった方がいいですよ。）

Will：将来の出来事を表す。例：I will call you later.（後であなたに電話します。）

Would：Will の過去形。過去の習慣や丁寧な依頼を表すこともある。例：When I was young, I would visit my grandparents every summer.（子供の頃、毎夏祖父母の家に行っていました。）

Ought to：必要性や義務を表す。例：You ought to apologize for your mistake.（あなたはあなたの間違いに謝るべきです。）
